Clown Bluey's History of Clowns: Modern 20th century clowns: Popov Oleg Constantinovitch was born on 31 July, 1930 in the village of Vyroubovo, Moscow. After attending the famous National Circus School and whilst still a pupil gave his first performance in 1948. Since that time, he has travelled the world and is probably the best known Russian clown. His favourite act was on the slack wire, a notoriously difficult skill. Like many Rusian and East European clowns, Popov wears very little make-up; things grotesque or freakish are not part of the modern Russian clown's repertoire. Popov is now in his late '80's and still clowning. |
