Clown Bluey's History of Clowns: Jesters: Jeffrey Hudson was just 18 inches tall. He was born in Oakham - then in the County of Rutland - in 1619. At the tender age of nine, he was placed in the service of Charles I and Henrietta Maria, who had seen him perform as jester at a dinner party given in their honour by the First Duke of Buckingham, for whom Jeffrey Hudson's father worked as a butcher and Keeper of the Bulls. The tiny lad was brought on to the table concealed in a pie from which he emerged to the great delight of the company. The Queen was particularly amused and the jester passed into her service to become a court favourite. |
