Clown Bluey's History of Clowns: Modern 20th century clowns: Grock. Grock was a brilliant clown who mainly performed in the Music Halls, although he did take out his own 'Grock Circus' near the end of his performing life. Born in 1880, he gave his last performance in 1954, aged 74. He was an excellent musician playing over twenty instruments to symphany standard, but was better known for his prowness on piano, violin and squeezebox. He was known as "The King of Clowns" and at one time was one of the highest paid artistes in Music Halls. He also composed over 3,000 songs and had his own music publishing company. |
